Riverbend Playschool has been part of the southwest Edmonton community since 1974. As a parent-run playschool, we’ve spent decades creating a warm, welcoming space where kids can learn, grow, and play together.
We believe in the power of play-based learning and the importance of community. Our dedicated teachers and involved families work hand-in-hand to support each child’s development in a fun, caring environment.

Riverbend Playschool Teacher
Lita Bablitz
Lita joined Riverbend Playschool in 2012 after 14 years of substitute teaching with Edmonton and Greater Victoria Public Schools. She holds a Bachelor of Education with a Minor in Intercultural Education. She believes play is essential to foster curiosity, confidence, and kindness.
An alumnus herself, Lita attended Riverbend Playschool in 1976/77! She and her husband, Mark, moved back to the neighborhood in 2004 to raise their two sons: Jasper, who is pursuing aquaculture on Vancouver Island, and Pearson, who studies Mechanical Engineering at the U of A.
Lita is passionate about community, social justice, and lifelong learning—and isn’t afraid to sing off-key if it makes someone smile.

Becky Gobeil
Becky joined Riverbend Playschool in 2012 after years of working with children through Community Options, a non-profit supporting families across Edmonton. She holds a degree in Psychology and discovered her passion for early childhood education after having her daughter.
With a strong belief in learning through play, Becky was thrilled to join the teaching team at Riverbend—a place that reflects her values and love for hands-on, child-led learning.
Becky lives in Riverbend with her husband, and are proud parents to a daughter in Calgary who works as a teacher. She enjoys cycling, hiking, cross country skiing and sharing time with friends and family.
